LIFE IS A JOURNEY
"To live is to journey, and to journey is to live."
「人生とは旅であり、旅とは人生である」
This is a phrase said by Hidetoshi Nakata, a professional soccer player who had been active in Japanese national team.
これは、サッカー日本代表で活躍した中田英寿さんの言葉です。
The first time I know this phrase was when I was 12th grader in senior high school. In those days Hide retired playing soccer in a professional team, and he gave this phrase to the title of his retirement statements.
初めてこの言葉を知ったのは、高校3年生のとき。彼が、プロサッカー選手を引退し、この言葉を引退声明のタイトルとしていました。
Somehow this has kept impressing me, and this, these days, often comes up to me. Thinking about this phrase, I realized a thing, about a purpose of life and journey.
なぜかこの言葉がずっと残っていたんですが、最近よく頭に出てきます。この言葉について考えていると、ふと人生や旅の目的について閃きました。
For what do you live and journey?
人はなんのために、生きるのか。旅をするのか。
I often hear the phrase, "life is a journey to find yourself"; however, what's more necessary for you is to know that "life is a journey to CREATE yourself".
よく「人生は自分探しの旅」という言葉を聞きます。でも、もっと必要なのは、「人生は自分創りの旅」だと知ることだと思います。
Reffereing to Hide's phrase, I would say "To live is to journey and to journey is to live, to create yourself."
ヒデの言葉を借りるなら、
「人生とは旅であり、旅とは人生である。自分創りのための。」
A problem is that schools might not teach the crucial fact so that bunch of people may not be
aware that they are creating themselves day by day.
問題は、学校がこの揺るぎない事実を教えてなくて、多くの人が日々自分創りをしているという自覚がないかもしれないということ。
I think to be aware of this is essentially important if people want to be happy, so I want to tell it to the students in charge.
人が幸せであるためには、この自覚はとても大切だと思うので、生徒には伝えていきたいなぁと思う。
Having goal is important but realizing purpose could be more important.
目標は大切だけれど、目的はきっともっと大切で
Thinking of what you will be in the future is necessary but not sufficient.
The more important thing is thinking of what you want to be now.
将来どうなりたいか、を考えることは必要ではあるけど十分なものではなく、今、どうありたいか、が本当に大切なことだということを。
All of creatures are to die sooner or later. You can never avoid it. That means to live is to get dying.
全ての生物は、遅かれ早かれいなくなる。決して避けられない。それはつまり、生きていくことは、死んでいくことということ。
Then, what's the role of "school"?
であれば、「学校」の役割とはなんだろう？
What should a teacher tell to the students?
教師が伝えるべきこととは？
"Life is a journey to CREATE yourself"
As Hide stated when he was 29 years old, I would state this at the same age.
中田英寿さんがあの言葉を残した29歳の時に、自分もこの言葉を残したい。
